Work from my Masters, Targeting Doctoral Studies
Academics
If academic writing, research and methodology is of interest to you, the following links contain thoughts, research and work from my M.Ed. If you’re curious about the University of Calgary’s Learning Sciences program, this page offers some insight into the program between 2015 and 2017. My parchment reads “Educational Technology”, but the program was renamed to “Learning Sciences” during the course of my studies.
My research (Collaboratory of Practice) took the form of exploring soft skills in students who show a preference for solitude. In a nutshell, I observed in my computer lab that students who were not typically viewed as leaders in core courses, were looked up to in my class. I brought to bear the instructional design skills from the Masters coursework, and built construct through which to teach political and economic systems (Alberta, grade 9 Social Studies curriculum) using Minecraft to simulate the creation of two societies. The research on soft skills including leadership, communication, and planning were explored in my research.
I thorougly enjoyed the process of becoming a student again after many years of teaching. When I completed my research project, I felt I still had many questions I wish to research, and it is absolutely my intention to pursue an EdD in Learning Sciences. It is my understanding that the next cohort for this program will begin in summer 2022.
