Design-Based Research (DBR)

Design based research is a new concept to this researcher. I am still exploring what comprises DBR, and how it may fit in with my doctoral interests. According to Barab (2022), “DBR is a powerful methodological framework for producing usable theory that can be implemented to generate enhanced outputs and outcomes.” (p. 188).  It is my understanding that DBR is an iterative approach to research allowing for phases of inquiry in a research project. Puntambekar (2018) affirms this understanding stating “iterative development of an innovation in which the design is put to the test in an authentic context is at the core of DBR.” (p. 383)

Over the course of the coming year, it will be my aim, through personal study and coursework, to learn more about this methodology to determine its fit with my research.
